Medicine Walk

The Medicine Walk is our annual gathering in nature—a day of gratitude, reflection, and community, celebrating the healing power of expanded state therapy and our shared responsibility to the Earth.

The Medicine Walk is happening across the globe, and is intended to build a community of gratitude and reciprocity around medicine traditions. There is no cost to participate, but if you are inspired to pay it forward so others may benefit, VWC suggests making donations to non-profits doing work in the field to expand access to medicine work and training.

Be part of a tradition that honors mystery, nature, and collective healing.

1. Organize Your Walk

Pick a location where you may feel inspired by the beauty or power of nature, and which offers a place to walk and a place to comfortably gather in circle.

Invite friends, family or colleagues to join you — those who have been touched by the healing impact of expanded states.

Plan for at least enough time to walk in nature and gather in circle, but make it as long as you’d like.

You can also walk on Sunday if Saturday doesn’t work for your group.

2. Setting Intention

The intention of the walk is to gather outside, in community, to give thanks for the medicine and share reflections on how we give back.

How you and your group do this is flexible.

3. Planning Your Flow

Create a flow that feels right for your group.

Some suggestions to consider as you walk:

  • Set a group intention at your trailhead or starting point.
  • Consider designating some time walking slowly in silence.
  • Prompt walkers to pick up a found item in nature along the way and make a small altar or mandala at your destination.

When you arrive to your circling spot, offer a short meditation, a prayer for the indigenous inhabitants of the land, a poem, or simply some time in silence.

Group sharing may include these prompts:

  • What are 1–2 specific ways you have benefited from the medicine?
  • How does your change affect others?
  • What is possible for you now, in terms of giving back to the earth, the medicine, your community? What are you ready to commit to?
  • Close the circle with gratitude.

Bring a picnic lunch and celebrate your time together.

4. Share with our Community

Medicine Walks will be happening across the planet.

Help us grow our sense of connectedness by sharing something from your medicine walk.

This could be photos, a short video, a reflection, an insight, or an outcome.

If you have permission to share photos or feedback, we would love to see your post on Instagram or Facebook with #vwcmedicinewalk.
